The Opel Corsa will have a 48V hybrid version

Opel will soon offer, and for the first time on the new Corsa, 48-volt hybrid technology. 

The system that will equip the small Corsa includes a lithium-ion battery that recharges automatically under certain driving conditions, and new 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engines rated at 74 kW/100 hp and 100 kW/136 hp, developed specifically for hybrid application. These engines are paired with a new six-speed dual-clutch electrified transmission and a 21 kW/28 hp electric motor. 

The 48V hybrid technology is perfectly suited for this compact urban car format. Daily, in the city or on country roads, petrol and electric motors work together or separately to optimize energy consumption and performance, offering many advantages, especially for urban use. 

The electric motor allows for low-torque driving in full electric mode over a distance of up to one kilometer, for example during maneuvers or at speeds below 30 km/h in traffic. It also assists the petrol engine during acceleration, such as at startup. During deceleration, the petrol engine stops, and the electric motor acts as a generator to recharge the 48V battery of the hybrid system. The battery also stores energy recovered through regenerative braking. 

The new Opel Corsa 48V hybrid is perfect for urban or peri-urban use. This cutting-edge technology is also accessible and easy to live with. It will also appeal to drivers who want to experience electric driving for the first time, without needing to recharge the battery.

With this 48V hybrid powertrain, the new Opel Corsa offers a wide range of powertrains, from internal combustion engines to purely electric propulsion, now including hybrid. This new technology also strengthens Opel’s ongoing electrification offensive, which will see the Blitz marque offer at least one 100% electric model for each of its models by the end of 2024. And from 2025, all new Opel models will be exclusively electric. 

However, we are still awaiting information on the lineup and pricing of the new Corsa Hybrid 48V, as for now Opel has completely lost us in an incomprehensible pricing grid.
