Tesla Cybertruck is in China but isn’t allowed to drive there!

Display Tesla Cybertruck models have arrived in China to participate in a major tour. However, there is little chance they will be approved there.

Elon Musk announced on January 13 on his social network X his desire for Tesla to send prototypes of the Cybertruck to China to take part in a large traveling exhibition, even inviting the local public to vote for the cities to visit on this tour.

As always with Musk, the promise seems to have been kept since the X account ThinkerCar posted a photo of two covered Cybertrucks ready to be loaded onto trailers. Nothing too surprising so far, you might say, but you should know that the chances of the American pickup being officially approved for the Chinese market are nearly zero!

Elon Musk himself acknowledged that the process of legalizing the Cybertruck in China would be “very difficult”. A mild euphemism, because with its stainless steel body as tough for pedestrians’ bones as a brick wall and its protruding angles, it’s simply impossible in its current form as it goes against Chinese regulations, especially regarding pedestrian safety. To date, it’s still unknown on how many markets Tesla will be able to sell this nice little electric truck. It will inevitably impact sales, but given Tesla’s struggles to keep up with production of the beast, it might be the least of its worries…
