The Mercedes eEconic on the road

A Swedish road safety company has recently added two electric Mercedes eEconic trucks to its fleet.
Primarily used so far for waste management, the Mercedes eEconic is now part of the Swedish company’s fleet TMA Bolaget. The Mercedes eEconic is based on a vehicle that until now only existed with combustion engines. It features 3 lithium-ion battery packs, with a total capacity of 336 kWh. It is credited with a maximum range of about 150 km. Capable of handling up to 160 kW of power, it can recharge from 20 to 80 % in about 1 hour and 15 minutes.

TMA’s special vehicles are equipped with mobile impact absorbers to secure short-term construction sites, for example. The impact attenuator mounted on the truck can protect all parties involved in case of collision. The vehicles are also equipped with a separate battery system capable of operating for about 20 hours per charge, along with additional solar cells. Besides securing construction sites, they can also supply power independently, without the need for generators.
Mercedes eEconic: a new step towards carbon neutrality
Daimler Truck has set the goal of only marketing CO2-neutral vehicles from 2039, in the European, North American, and Japanese markets. To achieve this goal, the German manufacturer is also working on hydrogen trucks. This solution presents many challenges in terms of supply, but it offers significantly greater autonomy than battery electric vehicles. It is therefore preferred for vehicles that need to travel longer distances.
