The latest Tesla update improves automatic parking

The latest OTA update launched by Tesla offers an enhanced parking feature, but not for everyone…

Tesla has begun rolling out update 2024.20.6 in Europe, which has long been available in North America. This includes an improved version of Autopark vision, which still relies on the camera system, with no ultrasonic sensors, a hallmark of Tesla.

No matter the model in the range, the only requirement is that it be equipped with enhanced Autopilot or Full Self-Driving Capability. These two options are priced at 3,800 euros and 7,500 euros in France, respectively, for features that have been quite limited until now, thus narrowing the spectrum of affected customers significantly.

However, it’s hard to blame Tesla, which has played the transparency card by clearly stating on its configurator that the Auto Parking, Auto Exit, and Smart Exit functions would be accessible only to holders of the enhanced Autopilot.

This new iteration of Autopark vision is quite unique and comes with new visuals. However, the high-fidelity parking assistance is unique to AMD processors, which display a 3D reconstruction of your environment. On Intel vehicles, a 2D top-down view will be shown instead (differences between Intel and AMD Autopark visuals). Autopark vision is much faster than the old Autopark and much more precise. It can also park the vehicle in tighter spaces than before, barely wider than the vehicle’s width.

No miracles, however, as the new automated parking only supports reverse parking into parking spots or parallel parking. Forward parking and/or angled parking still resist this technology.
