American military, Tesla offers you 1000 dollars!

In a constant search for new marketing ideas to maintain its sales, Tesla is now trying to appeal to the military.

Capitalizing on patriotism is a tactic that always works in the United States. With its new “Military” sales program, Tesla seems to really be reaching the bottom. If it’s going down this divisive path, why not include nurses, firefighters, social workers, those who also “serve the country”?

Because Tesla’s commercial slogan to attract military personnel is striking: “Made in America for those who served.” With a $1000 discount on the purchase of a Tesla Model 3, Model Y, Model X, or Model S produced in the United States.

A state security issue?

This offer, launched on July 4, 2024, the national day of independence across the Atlantic, is aimed at active military personnel, as well as veterans and their spouses “to honor those who have served our country.” The Cybertruck and used vehicles are not eligible for this campaign.

On the commercial site of Tesla USA, a verification module for your eligibility has now been installed. Named Verify with ID.me, this mechanism connects to a database similar to FranceConnect in our country.

Beyond the demagoguery displayed by Tesla, which could be a double-edged sword, this initiative raises a question: what if this was a very bad idea for the country’s security? Why?

Because there’s no car more connected and hackable than a Tesla today, with repeated data leaks over the years. Thus, transporting military personnel could potentially expose them to eavesdropping and other captures of sensitive information without their knowledge.

An enemy power could gain a significant advantage from a concentration of information in Teslas. Tesla has even stated in Asia that it is preparing for a war between China and Taiwan. Go figure…
