Elon Musk’s Lunar Excuse for Justifying the Robotaxi Delay

Initially announced by Elon Musk himself on August 8, the presentation of the Robotaxi has ultimately been postponed by several months.

Elon Musk must have felt the sting from investors following this week’s announcement of a several-month delay in the Robotaxi project. This autonomous vehicle is a major issue for Tesla as it foreshadows the future of the brand’s self-driving cars. It has also sounded the death knell for the car priced under $25,000, which many believe could have allowed Tesla to compete directly with the bulk of Chinese production in a promising market. In short, it was high time to light some counter-fires, and Musk used his favorite communication tool, his own social network X (formerly Twitter), to do so.

So what is the reason for this delay? A technical issue, a problem with mapping, or political opposition? None of that, it is actually an aesthetic issue! Elon Musk confirmed this in response to Warren Redlich, an ultra-active Florida Teslafan with 80,300 followers, which is good but not top.

Redlich claimed in a video that the delay was due to a CONSIDERABLE change in technical direction decided solely by Musk, which left the engineers WITHOUT A VOICE. We leave the capitals for dramatic effect…

Still unfiltered, Elon Musk directly responded that it is indeed a request from him, but it only concerns a redesign of the front end. And incidentally, a bit of extra time would allow for a review of a few other details. Knowing that it will only be a prototype anyway, an aesthetic change only takes a few hours thanks to the enormous technical resources that Tesla possesses. The real reason for the delay is therefore to be found in the few things that need changing… This could very well mean that the entire concept needs to be reworked!
