Give Your Tesla Model Y a Terrace

Tesla has just unveiled a nice accessory for the Model Y. A way to calmly face the autumn rain.

This removable tent, showcased in preview on Tesla’s Chinese shop, is well-designed for summer as well as the other three seasons of the year. This awning is made from coated fabric lined with a metal layer, which is waterproof and also offers UV50+ sun protection. The entire fabric and support system is designed to withstand winds of up to 40 km/h. This is largely sufficient, as beyond that, it’s better to seek refuge inside the vehicle.

Tesla claims that the kit requires no accessories or tools for installation and does not need to be anchored to the ground. One can already sense a design reminiscent of Quechua, extremely easy to set up but a nightmare to take down. Fully deployed, the tent covers an area of 318 cm by 16550 cm and is 260 cm high. It fits into a transport bag measuring 68 cm x 22 cm x 12 cm.

When visiting the Tesla shop, one usually discovers totally unnecessary accessories that we desperately want, like the meat branding iron, Cybertruck beer, or the kids’ quad at three times the price of a non-Tesla equivalent. For once, this awning seems well thought out and practical. One can easily imagine a small break by the seaside for lunch with a little griddle powered by the V2L function and some fairy lights for ambiance. A certain idea of affordable luxury as it is offered in China for only 100 euros! But let’s wait to see how we, poor Europeans, will be treated…
