Toyota Shops at Suzuki

Toyota is indeed very reluctant to fully engage in the game of 100% electric vehicles!

Suzuki and Toyota have announced a new phase of their collaboration to provide a battery electric SUV developed by Suzuki to Toyota. This new model will be produced by Suzuki in India starting in spring 2025. It’s a good way for Toyota to enhance its lineup with this essential mid-size 100% electric SUV for any decent automotive catalog. All this at a low cost and especially with minimal effort to continue pursuing the two paths deemed most relevant, those of hybridization and hydrogen.

This new model will be based on a native electric platform, designed exclusively to accommodate a battery electric vehicle. The SUV is expected to be available with all-wheel drive.

Suzuki and Toyota began forming partnerships as early as 2016, with both companies committing to a large-scale collaboration. The areas of collaboration are diverse and include mutual production and supply of vehicles, as well as the dissemination of electrified vehicles. Vehicles resulting from this collaboration are being deployed in Japan, India, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

The new development announced today leads to the launch of the first battery electric vehicle resulting from the collaboration between the two companies. It will be launched globally under both brands, similar to what Toyota has done in co-developing the bZ4X with Subaru. When we say that the manufacturer is really struggling with fully electric vehicles! Although it’s not specified in the statement from Toyota, it is likely that Suzuki will benefit in return from Toyota’s expertise in hydrogen.
