As a leading player in hydrogen mobility, Iveco is also accelerating its electric battery decarbonization with its Crossway Elec bus.

Before seeking to decarbonize vehicles traveling thousands of kilometers daily, which represent only a drop in the ocean of CO2 emissions, let’s think about short trips. The problem will be much less complex to solve and far more relevant in terms of measurable results. Thus, after the city centers, it is worth expanding the scope to include school and interurban transport.

In response to the demands of community groups, especially those wishing to reduce their fuel costs, Iveco Bus has developed a new simple and efficient product, the Crossway Elec. Without luxury or flashy solutions, this battery electric bus is designed for its primary function: transporting dozens of people from point A to point B, with an affordable price-to-service ratio.

For this purpose, it offers a flexible configuration with battery packs ranging from 3 to 6, depending on autonomy needs. There’s no point in paying a very expensive vehicle for ultra-long range if you don’t need it, and the planet will thank you too. Thus, versions with 3 or 4 battery packs meet the requirements of school or interurban routes that rarely exceed 200 km daily. The batteries are mounted on the roof (yes, unusual for center of gravity considerations) and in the rear compartment.

Up to 3000 Nm of torque!

The so-called “extended range” versions feature 5 or 6 packs with batteries stored in the compartments. Storage capacity then rises to up to 415 kWh, enabling a range of 450 to 500 km per charge. Naturally, the space taken by the batteries in the storage area reduces luggage volume, but on a daily basis, this is hardly a critical issue.

Mechanically, the Iveco Crossway Elec is equipped with a single Siemens electric motor with a power of 290 kW (395 horsepower) and notably a colossal torque of 3000 Nm! This means driving will be quiet, smooth, and jerk-free, ensuring superior comfort.

Up to 63 passengers can board (57 for the 12-meter version). Production will take place at the Vysoké Mýto factory in the Czech Republic, and orders are already open.
