Renault Mobilize Duo

While the Citroën Ami dominates the market for license-free electric cars, the Mobilize Duo changes the game. But beware of the price.

The Mobilize Duo, the latest addition to Renault Group’s Mobilize brand, makes a striking entry into the electric micro-city car market in spring 2025. Succeeding the Renault Twizy, it stands out with its bold design and technical features engineered for urban mobility. With its two tandem seats, it also aims to differentiate itself from the undisputed high school court favorite, the Citroën Ami.

Available in two versions, the Duo 45 Neo accessible from age 14 without a license, and the Duo 80 Evo requiring a B1 license from age 16, the Mobilize Duo offers a range of up to 161 km (100 km real-world), surpassing its major rival with chevrons rated at 75 km… or 45 km in real terms. The cube battery is 10.3 kWh, compared to 5.35 kWh for the Ami.

Its compact design, measuring 2.43 m in length and 1.30 m in width, eases parking in urban areas. The gull-wing doors add a futuristic touch while optimizing access in tight spaces. At a time when all slightly affluent high school students drive the same greyscale Citroën Ami, the Mobilize Duo helps you stand out a bit. Note that the steering wheel comes with a standard airbag.

An Expensive Micro-City Car?

However, the tandem seating configuration is less user-friendly than side-by-side seats. And the rear passenger shouldn’t be claustrophobic either…

Although produced at Renault’s factory in Tangier, Morocco, its price remains quite high. Expect at least 9990 euros for the entry-level 45 Neo version, which is about 2000 euros more than the Citroën Ami. Not a small sum, especially considering the minimalistic original finish: steel wheels and black everywhere. For the Duo 80 Evo version, prices start at a minimum of 12,500 euros, but the finish is more attractive and the equipment more comprehensive.

As the name suggests, the Duo 45 is limited to 45 km/h… and the 80 to 80 km/h. Power ranges from 5.6 kW (8 horsepower) to 7.4 kW (10 horsepower). The first qualifies for a €240 CEE bonus, the second for €460. Lastly, note that the ecological bonus disappeared in 2025 for this type of electric vehicle. Too bad, as the aid was then €900.

Which Financing Option?

Knowing that not everyone will be able to pay €9990 upfront, especially for a vehicle meant for teenagers’ mobility, and for a duration of 2-3 years, Mobilize offers a financing plan.

This is a long-term rental (LLD) for 37 months. The initial rent is €1600, followed by 36 monthly payments of €68.35. The total mileage is 15,000 kilometers, or 5000 km per year. Fairly straightforward.

At the end, this rental will have cost €4060.60, which is a reasonable rate. No capital immobilization, depreciation worries, maintenance, or headaches in case of breakdown.

For the Duo 80 Evo version, however, monthly rents increase to €156.95. Over the rental period, that totals €7250.20. A price comparable to that of a “real” car with higher capabilities, equipment, and mileage allowance. The message from Mobilize seems to be that it’s better to buy. But who can afford it?
