Wienie 500

This announcement would be all fun and games if it weren’t so serious. Welcome to the first Wienie 500 in history.

In France, we have the 2CV Cochonou proudly parading in the Tour de France and the famous tuning/merguez gatherings where the exhaust competes with the barbecue. But then… nothing, absolutely nothing prepares you for what is going to happen in the United States: a race of giant sausages on wheels at the Indianapolis Speedway, one of the most legendary circuits in the world. Yes, you read that right. Sausages. In cars. Racing each other. Welcome to the very first edition of the Wienie 500, a as absurd as improbable event scheduled for Friday, May 23.

It’s Oscar Mayer, the king of American sausages, who came up with this idea as delicious as it is strange: to pit his six famous Wienermobiles (literal hot dogs on wheels) against each other in a race broadcast live on the eve of the Indianapolis 500, the biggest auto race in the United States. For the first time in over ten years, the six vehicles will be gathered for this grand “meat-up” (kudos for the meaty pun), each showcasing a brand new look representing a regional specialty: Chi Dog (Midwest), New York Dog, Slaw Dog (Southeast), Sonoran Dog (Southwest), Chili Dog (South), and Seattle Dog (Northwest).

NASCAR vibes but with a charcuterie twist: customized driver suits, a trophy in the very serious Wiener’s Circle, condiment showers for the winner, and of course, a big hot dog as a prize. The entire event will be streamed on the FOX Sports app and on the social media of @INDYCARonFOX.

The summer of sausages is officially launched, and apparently, it starts on a racetrack. Long live America, long live hot dogs, and may the best wiener win!
