A stylish, modern, affordable Renault SUV… but not for us!

Ah, Renault… This ability to design charming models but keep them far away from our European dealerships.

The latest victim of this strategy is called the Renault Kiger, a lively little SUV that, once again, will be reserved for Indian and Brazilian drivers. Frustrating? Yes. Unfair? Absolutely.

Because the New Renault Kiger ticks all the boxes of a modern and attractive small SUV. Its exterior design has been sharpened with a new grille, LED lights everywhere, redesigned protective skirting, and even a reshaped hood to give it a rugged look. Add to this a flashy “Oasis Yellow” color with a two-tone roof, and you have a look that would turn heads on our streets.

A good look and a complete package

Inside, Renault has gone all out: a two-tone dashboard, ventilated faux leather seats, better sound insulation, and a multimedia system with a floating 8-inch screen, supporting wireless connectivity. Add a 3D sound system by Arkamys and a multi-view camera like a big SUV, and you realize our Clio suddenly feels quite modest.

Under the hood, the Kiger offers a choice: a small turbocharged engine with 100 hp for peppiness, or a more sensible 72 hp engine for those who prefer efficiency. Even better, it is available in a CNG (natural gas) version and can run on E20, an ethanol-based fuel popular in Brazil, proving that Renault knows how to adapt its cars to local challenges. And it’s also a good way to avoid ecological penalties in France while still offering an affordable thermal engine…

And safety? Six airbags as standard, ESP, Isofix, hill-start assist… all for less than 7,000 euros! One would think we are far from the “discount” SUV often reserved for emerging markets.

In short, a winning combination that would have its place here. But no. Renault prefers to reserve this toy for India, where it is achieving great success. Here, we will have to settle for watching it from afar… or grumbling gently, as always, thinking: yet another nice Renault that is off-limits to us! A final possibility is to check if Dacia has an equivalent model…
