The Porsche 99X disguised as an electric Cayenne

The Formula E Porsche 99X adopts the look of the future electric Cayenne, a playful nod to the technology transfer between track and road.

On the sidelines of the official Formula E tests in Valencia, Porsche gave a nice wink to its future SUV: Pascal Wehrlein and Nico Müller’s 99X Electric sports the camouflage of the brand-new electric Cayenne. A deliberate nod to the permeability between racing and production, and a playful way to set the tone before the worldwide reveal of the SUV.

Behind this unusual livery is a clear message: at Porsche, technologies never remain confined to a single realm. On the track as on the road, the manufacturer bets on energy recovery. And not just a little: up to 600 kW for both machines! An impressive number, synonymous with energy efficiency and controlled performance.

From Track to Road

Thomas Laudenbach, Vice President of Porsche Motorsport, sees it as a perfect symbol of the know-how transfer between the Weissach workshops and the Formula E circuits. The direct cooling of electric motors with oil, for example, comes directly from the racing program and is now an integral part of the future electric Cayenne.

And to strengthen the link between the two worlds, Czech driver Gabriela Jílková, a regular at the Porsche simulator, also took the wheel of the 99X Electric in Valencia. Already seen at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Shelsley Walsh behind the wheel of the Cayenne prototype, she thus closes the loop: from road to track, the design remains the same.
