A New Electric Monster from Chevrolet

Chevrolet unveils this weekend at the 500 Miles of Daytona its 100% electric prototype Blazer EV.R NASCAR.

What better platform than the highlight race of the American NASCAR Championship, the Daytona 500, to reveal this unusual Chevrolet. According to the American manufacturer, it illustrates their commitment to explore and test innovative technologies that can benefit both racing cars and production models.

“Although we will continue racing with our proven V8 technology in NASCAR for the coming years, we are constantly seeking to improve the balance of power, durability, and efficiency to transfer lessons from the track to our electric consumer models.” said Eric Warren, executive director of global competition at General Motors.

The times are changing, even at Chevrolet

The Blazer EV.R develops over 1,300 horsepower thanks to three six-phase electric motors, capable of reaching 15,000 rpm, powered by a 78 kWh liquid-cooled battery. Built on NASCAR’s Next Gen chassis, this prototype transmits power to the ground via a programmable all-wheel drive system and Goodyear Racing Eagle tires. Chevrolet collaborated with NASCAR and other manufacturers to define the technical parameters.

The design of the Blazer EV.R, inspired by the production Blazer EV SS model, combines lower and wider proportions with lines focused on aerodynamics and performance. “This NASCAR project allowed us to design an SUV body and incorporate distinctive elements of the Blazer EV SS,” explained Phil Zak, Chevrolet’s global design director. Last December, this prototype successfully tested at Carolina Motorsports Park with Justin Allgaier, the 2024 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion, at the wheel.

Meanwhile, Chevrolet will serve as the Pace Car for the 67th Daytona 500 with the Blazer EV SS, capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.4 seconds thanks to its 615 horsepower. Actor Alan Ritchson will have the honor of driving this model, the fastest in the SS range to date.
