Currently in development, the Volta Zero electric trucks have received 230 million euros to solidify the launch of the first model at the end of 2022.

Futuristic, the Volta Zero truck marks a break from current and especially combustion engine vehicles. Not only original, the heavy utility comes from Sweden with a focus on safety. Indeed, its cab is low and forward-placed, with a visibility of up to 220 degrees, allowing better detection of other users or pedestrians.

Like any forward-thinking vehicle, it sports an electric powertrain. Its Proterra batteries of 150 or 225 kWh provide sufficient range for most users, between 150 and 200 kilometers.

The Scandinavian brand believes it can prevent 1.2 million tons of CO2 emissions annually by 2025.

230 million to ensure design and production

For its third round of funding “Series C”, Volta Trucks raised 230 million euros. The fundraising is supported by initial investors Luxor Capital Group, Byggmästare Anders J Ahlström, Agility Logistics, and the new B-Flexion.

What will this huge sum be used for? For Volta, part of it “will finance all engineering operations and commercial activities of the company”. Another part will also help develop prototype electric heavy trucks for heavy-duty electric vehicles. Subsequently, pre-production trucks will be tested by “customers in London and Paris in the middle of the year”.

Volta Zero electric truck 2022 range
Volta aims for a range of 4 electric trucks from 7.5 to 18 tons.

Finally, the remaining funds will support the design of shorter versions of 7.5 and 12 tons. A fourth 18-ton model is also planned to create a range suitable for Europe and the United States.

First Volta Zero trucks in 2022, including 1,000 in France

The first Volta Zero trucks will only be manufactured at the very end of 2022. They will be assembled at Steyr in Austria, at the Steyr Automotive factory, specialized in utility and heavy-duty vehicles.

The goal is to sell a backlog of 5,000 electric trucks in the first year of production, in 2023. The biggest contributors are the German giant DB Schenker (1,470 units) and the French company Petit Forestier (1,000 units).

In the following year, 2024, the manufacturer hopes to reach 14,000 vehicles, then 27,000 in 2025.
