As a result, 950 million euros will be missing in 2023 if nothing is done. The region has identified areas for savings, but they will only allow it to recover “around” 200 million euros. For the remaining 750 million, Valérie Pécresse hopes to be able to rely on local authorities, the city of Paris, and the state. She also expects efforts from SNCF and RATP. Finally, companies with more than 10 employees could also be asked to contribute through an increase in the mobility tax.
An inevitable increase for users
But even if everyone plays along – which is not a given – an increase in fares seems unavoidable. The question is more about how much the Navigo pass will increase, which currently costs €75.20 per month. According to Valérie Pécresse, “the pass would need to be increased to €100” if the region were to act alone. “I refuse that and call on the responsibility of all stakeholders,” affirms the regional president.
