Tickets for the first commercial flight of an electric airplane on sale

The Scandinavian airline SAS has launched ticket sales for the 90 seats of its first flight of its future 100% electric aircraft in 2028.

This is a historic moment that must be recognized as such: the opening of sales for the first 100% electric commercial flight by a major airline, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). For now, the offer is limited to 30 seats per flight, with three such flights planned, totaling 90 seats.

These flights “are expected” to take place in 2028, according to the airline. This symbolic step aligns with SAS’s goal to achieve CO2 neutrality by 2050, as well as a 50% reduction in noise pollution by 2030 compared to 2010 levels. “Since its founding in 1946, SAS has been one of the pioneers of the aviation industry, for example as the first commercial airline to fly over the North Pole to significantly reduce flight times between continents. This revolutionary activity earned SAS the Columbus Award. The fact that we can now invite our passengers to the next major step in the future of aviation is a natural continuation of this pioneering spirit and an important milestone on our path toward more sustainable aviation,” said Anko van der Werff, President and CEO of SAS.

Reservations can be made at flysas.com/electric starting June 2, at a price of 1946 crowns (a tribute to the company’s founding year), roughly 168 euros. The limit is two seats per booking… but unfortunately, this sale is not open to residents outside Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Pity.

These first three flights will be operated with a Swedish Heart Aerospace ES-30 aircraft.
