Skoda Vision Gran Turismo

Skoda makes its debut in one of the most popular PlayStation games. And the Czech prototype is more than enticing.

For the first time, Skoda and the Vision Gran Turismo concept car are featured in the famous game Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4 and 5. A clever, and highly playful, way to reach a new audience.

The Vision Gran Turismo is inspired by the 1957 Skoda 1100 OHC Spider, developed to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Under the direction of Oliver Stefani, Skoda’s design team envisioned a convertible single-seater, combining design elements of the legendary 1100 OHC with new features such as a two-part rear wing.

Players can choose between two paint finishes for their Skoda Vision Gran Turismo: one reminiscent of the 130 RS, celebrated for its double class victory at the 1977 Monte Carlo Rally, and a second in Explorer Green, the body color of the Vision 7S, the 100% electric 7-seater SUV concept that introduced the Modern Solid design.

Above the steering wheel, directly in the driver’s line of sight, there is a power indicator shaped like a crystal (a tribute to Czech Bohemian crystal). The cockpit display shows not only the current speed, selected driving mode, and battery level but also functions as a rearview mirror, constantly displaying the area behind the vehicle. Additionally, onboard distance sensors alert the driver to the presence of nearby vehicles, effectively reducing the risk of side collisions.

Gran Turismo has a tradition of regularly showcasing concept cars from major manufacturers. They must provide a comprehensive technical sheet as close as possible to that of a real vehicle. Let’s focus on Skoda’s vision. Designed for efficiency and exceptional driving dynamics, the vehicle weighs only 1,300 kilograms and measures about 4.41 meters in length, nearly 1.95 meters in width, and only 94.9 centimeters in height. A total of four electric motors, powered by an 87 kWh lithium-ion battery, deliver impressive performance. The synchronous (brushless) permanent magnet motors are arranged in units of two, with two on the front axle and two on the rear. Each motor provides 200 kW and spins up to 25,000 rpm, resulting in a total power output of 800 kW. The maximum torque is 1,020 Nm, enabling smooth acceleration through a single-speed transmission. The all-wheel-drive system actively optimizes torque distribution between the two axles for better handling in curves, ensuring a responsive driving experience.
