What do you think of the new BMW cockpit?

The BMW Neue Klasse style, which initially sparked concern about its bold direction, ultimately seems to reconcile innovation and aesthetics.

At the 2025 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, BMW Group unveiled its vision for user interfaces and display systems for its future models. The event showcased an advanced version of the new BMW iDrive system, centered around the BMW Panoramic Vision, supported by the BMW Operating System X. This system will be introduced in all new BMW models starting late 2025.

The new BMW iDrive combines four main elements into a unique concept of display and control, focusing on the driver.

The BMW Panoramic Vision is a display system projecting information across the full width of the windshield at an appropriate height for the driver. Essential driving information appears on the left side, directly within the driver’s line of sight, above the steering wheel. The central area and the passenger zone are customizable via the central screen.

An optional 3D head-up display complements the Panoramic Vision by projecting navigation and driving information within the driver’s field of view. These combined systems have led to multiple patents filed by BMW Group.

The central screen uses a high-resolution matrix backlight technology, offering vibrant colors and strong contrast. Up to six widgets can be displayed and transferred to the Panoramic Vision with a gesture.

The multifunction steering wheel adopts the “shy-tech” approach: the buttons light up to indicate available functions and provide active haptic feedback. The layout of controls follows a clear functional scheme: driving assistance on the left and media control on the right.

This comprehensive interface system exemplifies BMW’s move toward smooth and intuitive interaction between the driver and onboard technologies, while also renewing the brand’s identity under the Neue Klasse banner.
