The Volkswagen ID. Buzz transforms into a camper van

During our previous test of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, we appreciated its interior space. That’s convenient, as a German company is now transforming it into a camper van.

Like the camper van of our youth, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz appeals to large families, but not only. Professionals can opt for a panel van version, and a 7-seater version is in the works. But for many, the VW Combi is a well-equipped and practical campervan. That’s fortunate because the Germans at Alpincamper are unveiling today a version for travel enthusiasts who want to go without constraints.

For connoisseurs, Alpinecamper has already tackled well-known utility vehicles, such as the Peugeot Partner and Expert, as well as the Volkswagen Caddy and T5/T6, distant descendants of the Combi. The German company is now focused on the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, which, as you know, is unique for being 100% electric and perfectly aligned with the baba cool vibe, although its starting price (from €56,990) may dissuade many potential customers.

Presented at the Stuttgart Motor Show, the Volkswagen ID Buzz Camping Car closely resembles the production model. Sharp-eyed observers will notice the appendage on the roof, designed to facilitate movement inside the vehicle. Onboard, there’s an extendable bench that converts into a double bed measuring 1.95 x 1.20 meters. Three storage bins are located underneath, including a 20-liter compressor cooler.

To prepare delicious meals, there is also a kitchenette with an induction cooktop, a mini sink, and two 12-liter jerry cans—one for fresh water and one for wastewater. Lastly, for refreshing drinks, a refrigerator is included.

An Additional Battery

A solar system with a roof-mounted panel charges the 100 Ah lithium-board battery, which in turn powers all devices, such as the 500-watt electric heater. As an option, a 200 Ah battery and a second solar panel can be installed.

The quality of craftsmanship shows up in the price, with an estimated cost for the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Camping Car ranging between €80,000 and €84,000 in Germany.
