Lexus Is Undergoing Its Electric Transition

Lexus is gearing up for a knockout event at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 by unveiling a range of 100% electric concept cars.

Lexus will showcase at the Tokyo Motor Show next-generation concept cars, foreshadowing the brand’s decision to focus its efforts in the very short term on transitioning to a lineup consisting solely of battery electric vehicles. The stand’s design will reflect the brand’s desire to achieve a carbon-neutral society with extensive use of bamboo, which combines traditional Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship with environmentally friendly, durable, and functional elements.

Virtual Reality according to Lexus

The theme of the Lexus booth will be “Pushing the boundaries of the electrified experience”. To project its vision to visitors, Lexus will offer an unprecedented virtual experience. A driving simulator, the “Lexus Electrified VR Experience,” will allow visitors to experience a futuristic drive tailored to each customer, made possible through electrification and AI.

As Toyota’s premium subsidiary, Lexus has already phased out all 100% combustion engine models from its French catalog. Its current lineup includes six hybrid models, from the small SUV UX to the sporty LC. In terms of 100% electric vehicles, there is the UX and the RZ SUV. Neither of these two models is currently eligible for the Ecological Bonus, which has likely been a barrier to sales.

The small SUV LBX and the large luxury monospaced LM will soon join a lineup that still struggles to find its audience in Europe.
