Geovelo: an app to get reimbursed for commuting trips

Thanks to the sustainable mobility package, employers can now cover the travel expenses of their employees when they use an alternative means of transportation. The Geovelo app makes it easy to streamline your procedures.

Following the Decree No.2020-541 of May 9, 2020, employers can provide a sustainable mobility allowance to their employees who use a “sustainable” mode of transport for their work journeys. This includes personal bicycles, carpooling as passenger or driver, shared mobility services (sharing electric or hybrid vehicles, renting and freely accessible scooters or bicycles), and public transportation (excluding subscriptions), allowing employees to recover part of their expenses from their employer, up to €700 per year, including a maximum of €400 for fuel costs. If the employee has a public transport subscription, they can then benefit from €800 per year. These allowances are exempt from social security contributions and taxes.

The system implemented by the French Government in 2018, with a budget allocated for 2023 of 250 million euros, is part of a broader plan to ban the production of thermal vehicles by 2035, as well as to encourage companies to develop policies for their employees to move away from cars in favor of soft mobility options.

A Practical Calculation Tool

The Bike Allowance tool developed by the Tourangelle company Geovelo allows employees to justify their journeys by generating a certificate to submit to their employer. The app offers employees the ability to access suitable and secure routes or to save these same routes.

Ronan Bouquet, CEO of Geovelo, further clarifies: “It is the only tool that allows employees to justify their bicycle mileage to their employers, and for companies to have a reliable tracking tool to motivate their employees’ practice of cycling and to be able to justify tax-wise the reimbursements paid.”
