GAC Van Life Concept: The Future Camper Van Will Be Autonomous

Straight out of a Mad Max-style dystopian film, the GAC Van Life Concept predicts the future of transport vehicles, electric and autonomous.

After passenger cars, it’s now the turn of vehicles designed for transporting people to go electric. When thinking of vehicles like Transporter, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz undoubtedly makes headlines (read our review of the Volkswagen ID. Buzz). But many other brands are working on this topic, like the Chinese company GAC.

The latest creation from GAC’s European research and development center, the Van Life Concept was developed for the Milan Design Week held last week. Its completely unconventional look would not look out of place in a dystopian or science fiction film like Mad Max, where one might imagine this vehicle crossing remote deserts at prohibited speeds to escape enemy gunfire.

Moreover, if the film’s hero were injured, they could activate the fully autonomous driving mode, which deploys four Lidar sensors from the roof to smoothly guide the Van Life Concept to its destination.

A high-autonomy electric motor

In a universe where traditional fuels have disappeared, it can also be recharged at ultra-fast charging stations. Its latest-generation semiconductor batteries allow, according to GAC, for very broad autonomy. It also emphasizes being eco-friendly by using recycled waste in its construction.

To enjoy the rare rays of the sun in a post-apocalyptic world, it features a large glazed roof. Meanwhile, the very modular interior includes all the travel essentials for 2.0 adventure seekers, including the latest camping tents.
