ChatGPT is now available in Audis

The artificial intelligence of ChatGPT is becoming more and more integrated into our lives, and the cabin of Audi vehicles is no exception.

Audi is implementing the ChatGPT chatbot, based on AI via the Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, within its infotainment system to enhance the voice command capabilities of its vehicles. Two million Audi models manufactured since 2021 will welcome this innovation, allowing their drivers to interact with their cars using natural language.

Starting in July, Audi drivers will be able to use the enhanced voice command to operate the infotainment, navigation, and climate control systems or to ask general knowledge questions. The ability to request information using natural language makes driving safer, as the driver never needs to take their eyes off the road. Passengers can activate the assistant as they are used to by saying “Hey Audi” or by using the “push-to-talk” button on the steering wheel to ask their questions.

The Audi system transmits requests to ChatGPT only when it cannot answer general inquiries. For technical information such as tire pressure, battery status, or traffic statistics, the Audi system retains control. However, for weather information, tourist details, or just a little general knowledge quiz, ChatGPT comes on board. To ensure optimal privacy, all questions and answers are deleted after processing. Moreover, ChatGPT never has access to vehicle data.
