Garmin launches Zumo R1, an innovative radar system for motorcycles that enhances vigilance and visibility to promote safety.
Garmin has announced the launch of the Zumo R1 Radar, its first radar system designed specifically for motorcycles. This compact and discreet device can detect vehicles behind the rider and offers an advanced blind spot monitoring system. Indicator lights, installed on the handlebars, warn the rider of approaching vehicles. Optional side and rear lights can be added to improve the motorcycle’s visibility to other road users.
According to Dan Bartel, Vice President of Global Sales at Garmin: “It is essential for motorcyclists to stay aware of their environment. The Zumo R1 Radar provides accurate information about approaching vehicles, including in blind spots, while enhancing safety through better visibility.”
The Zumo R1 Radar can be paired with the dedicated mobile app or with the Zumo XT2 motorcycle GPS (sold separately). These connections allow radar information to be displayed on a screen and activate audible alerts via compatible helmet or headset. Settings, such as alert distance or light configuration, can be customized from the app.
Designed to fit all motorcycle models, the radar is discreetly mounted above or below the license plate. Its matte black casing, certified IP67, is dust and water resistant, ensuring durability even in demanding conditions. The device requires no batteries or recharging, operating directly from the motorcycle.
The Zumo R1 Radar is available at a price of €599.99. It will be showcased as a preview at CES 2025 in Las Vegas starting tomorrow at the Garmin booth.
