SEAT will install 39,000 new solar panels across three different sites to provide an additional 21 MW of power
The expansion of SEAT al Sol, the company’s photovoltaic plant, will include the installation of solar panels covering an area of 233,000 square meters across its three production sites, Martorell, El Prat, and Barcelona. This project highlights SEAT’s efforts to decarbonize its manufacturing processes and reinforces the company’s commitment to more sustainable mobility.
The new SEAT al Sol 2 solar installation will be one of the largest in Europe in terms of self-consumption. These solar farms will provide an additional power capacity of 21 megawatts (MW), generating approximately 29 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy per year. This is enough electricity to charge 500,000 CUPRA Born vehicles at 100%. This clean energy will complement the certified green electricity consumption in all company facilities, sourced externally and with zero CO2 emissions.
The company’s goal is to reduce its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 compared to 2018 and to become a carbon-neutral company by 2050. To achieve this, the main levers are vehicle electrification, which reduces the carbon footprint during use, the use of green energy to charge electric vehicles, and promoting the circular economy and decarbonization of the production phase.
