This weekend will see the Le Mans Classic, where dozens of vintage vehicles will compete for victory on the legendary 24 Hours track. Cars will run with a synthetic fuel that contains no fossil elements.

From June 29th to July 1st, vintage cars will race, yes, but with a fuel different from previous years. Classic cars are vehicles that can no longer be developed, not because it’s impossible, but because it’s a choice. They are historic cars that aim to preserve their youth and not adapt to today’s world.

A different fuel

Planet preservation is now on everyone’s mind, including the organizers’. That’s why the organizers and Peter Auto have decided to partner with Aramco, the Saudi national hydrocarbon company, to supply a renewable fuel. Moreover, the company must comply with European standards EN228. The fuel used by vintage cars is made from biomass, enabling a reduction of CO2 emissions by at least 45%.

A fuel to save combustion engines

A so-called synthetic fuel could replace biomass-based fuel starting in 2025. This fuel, tested by Aramco, is composed of CO2 dispersed into the atmosphere along with hydrogen produced by electrolysis, all from renewable electricity. CO2 emissions could be reduced by 70%.

Enthusiasts of thermal cars can continue using their vehicles with a fuel that consumes very little.
