With 11 new areas equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, Vinci Autoroutes is moving toward a fully covered network by 2023.

On all fronts, the charging station infrastructure remains fragile in the face of rising electric car sales. While most users charge at home, the fast charging network along roads and highways still needs to expand to maintain its availability.

11 new areas, but not all ultra-fast

Among the involved companies, Vinci Autoroutes announced this week a new batch of charging stations. 11 new areas are now equipped, mainly in the East and South of France. All these areas are open 24/7, around the clock.

38 of these new charging points are ultra-fast, mainly built with Ionity. These stations can deliver up to 350 kW of power. This is enough to anticipate the new generations of electric cars. The fastest, such as Porsche Taycan (270 kW) or Kia EV6 (239 kW), are still far from this theoretical limit. The locations include Narbonne Vinassan-Nord (A9), Bourges Sainte-Thorette (A71), Sorgues (A7), Poitou-Charentes Nord, and the Orléans Nord parking lot (A10).

Another area, La Bruche on the new A355 highway, has adopted Allego’s solution. These stations have a maximum power of 300 kW. Lançon-de-Provence also hosts 4 connectors from TotalEnergies, limited to 175 kW.

The 15 other charging points are fast, with a maximum power of 50 kW. They are equipped with Type 2 and CHAdeMO plugs. They are located at Chaumont-sur-Tharonne (A71), Val Neuvy (A10), and Béziers Montblanc (19).

What is the cost of charging?

Regarding prices, they vary depending on the connector and operator. On Ionity, the rate is consistent across all stations at €0.79/kWh, but partner brands may offer discounted prices.

Indeed, the consortium’s investors include Mercedes, BMW, Volkswagen, Ford, and Hyundai. At Allego, the rate is below €0.605/kWh, with no discounts for specific brands. The same applies at TotalEnergies, with a uniform price of €0.65/kW for all.

All Vinci areas equipped in 2023

With this new deployment, Vinci Autoroutes is progressing toward its final goal. The group hopes that all its network of areas will have electric vehicle charging points by 2023.

However, it does not specify the total number of stations or the types that will occupy these new locations.
