After service stations, the network of French highways continues with the installation of charging points in rest areas.

While 100% of its service areas in its network offer electric charging stations, VINCI Autoroutes is continuing the deployment of electric charging points and equipping some rest areas along the main routes of its network. In this context, the deployment and operation of 18 new fast charging stations have been entrusted, through tenders, to the French operator Electra, which already manages 7 stations on the VINCI Autoroutes network. Located on the A7, A9, and A10 highways, these stations, the first announced in rest areas in France, are being progressively put into service this year, including 7 before summer. The two partners are thus contributing to densifying the network of fast charging points available to electric vehicle users on highways to support them throughout their long-distance journeys.

174 new high-power charging points deployed at 18 rest areas in southern France

Thus, 18 new areas are concerned, for a total of 174 new high-power charging points (from 200 to 400 kW) that are being progressively made available to drivers:

  • a first commissioning this weekend, at the Bornaron rest area, in Drôme (A7 highway)
  • by the end of June, the affected rest areas are as follows:
    • on the A7: Bouterne, in Drôme;
    • on the A9: Rivesaltes and Pia rest areas, in Pyrénées-Orientales;
    • on the A10: Cézac (in Gironde), Saint Palais West and East (in Charente-Maritime).
  • by the end of the year:
    • on the A7: Tricastin and Orange-le-Grés rest areas, in Vaucluse;
    • on the A9: Gigean North and Loupian (Hérault) as well as Bages and Gasparets (Aude);
    • on the A10: La Bénate, Boisredon, and Saint-Caprais rest areas in Charente-Maritime.

Additionally, stations will be deployed by 2026 at the Estézargues North and South rest areas, on the A9, in Gard.

These new stations are designed to limit the environmental impact of their deployment, similar to the Electra stations already present on the VINCI Autoroutes network: canopies fitted with photovoltaic panels, whose production is reinjected into the production circuits; locations covered with permeable paving to avoid soil sealing; tree planting to offset CO2 emissions. A carbon balance will also be carried out for each of these projects.
