Aston Martin has developed “the most meticulous road bike in the world”

Modesty is not the first adjective that comes to mind when describing our British cousins. Well, it must be said that the joint creation of Aston Martin and the titanium bicycle expert, J. Laverack, is superb. Its name, the .1R, benefits from an obsession with detail taken to the extreme. No bolt, cable, or hose is visible, for example. The frame combines 3D-printed titanium elements and carbon fiber tubes.

The goal is to create a frame that is simultaneously lightweight, rigid, and comfortable. Each unit will be custom-made with the exact measurements of its owner (including the saddle, which will be 3D printed from a scan of the rider’s pelvis). Every component is designed to work with another developed specifically for this bike. No off-the-shelf solutions were used from a supplier catalog.

For example, the brake calipers feature four pistons for the first time. Why such a lavish setup when tire grip will be the first to fail? Because braking power is not the main concern here: the four pistons offer increased sensitivity of the brakes.

Each owner will be invited to visit Aston Martin headquarters in Gaydon (England), where a comprehensive fitting will take place, offering endless possibilities to personalize their unique and individual .1R. Customers can select exactly the same color palettes and trim options as available on Aston Martin cars, allowing them to match their car and bike if they wish.

When a client takes delivery of their customized Aston Martin .1R J.Laverack, they will notice that each bike and its components—such as hubs, cranks, and frame—are numbered, forever linking them as part of a whole. The bike will also come with its own case, made of aluminum or carbon, which will serve both as a travel solution and a display stand for the .1R. Each travel case will include a matching pump with handles covered in Alcantara or leather, securely placed inside the protective case.

The 12-speed transmission will again be custom-designed, with chainrings machined from aluminum according to each owner’s preferred sizes. And this level of detail extends to all elements of the manufacturing process.

Aston Martin and J. Laverack reaffirm: the .1R is “the most bespoke, advanced, and meticulously designed bike in the world“.
