The Yamaha Urban Mobility range expands with two new electric bikes: the eBike BOOSTER Easy and the electric S-pedelec BOOSTER.

Models built on Yamaha’s 30 years of experience in electric vehicles

Yamaha began production of the world’s first eBike in 1993. Today, 30 years later, the Japanese brand is at the forefront of the development, design, and manufacturing of zero-emission eBikes, bicycles, and scooters. Yamaha is also one of the main manufacturers of drive units used by many other eBike brands made by various producers. While remaining a major producer of zero-emission vehicles contributing to a cleaner environment, Yamaha has also accelerated its program to become a carbon-neutral manufacturer by 2035.

New BOOSTER Easy and BOOSTER models

The new Yamaha BOOSTER Easy and electric S-pedelec BOOSTER were developed in Europe to meet the rising demand for clean, quiet, and accessible urban transportation. A few decades ago, Yamaha’s legendary BW’s scooter and the best-seller MBK Booster inspired a generation of young riders seeking fun and freedom on two wheels. Powered by a top-tier Yamaha drivetrain and featuring a robust, timeless chassis, the new electric BOOSTER models are designed to provide today’s city residents with an easy, enjoyable, and affordable way to get around without emissions.

BOOSTER Easy and BOOSTER: what’s the difference?

The new Yamaha BOOSTER Easy and BOOSTER look almost identical and are technically very similar, sharing the same lightweight chassis. The difference lies in their performance: the BOOSTER Easy is an eBike assisted pedaling limited to 25 km/h, whereas the BOOSTER is an S-pedelec or electric moped with an AM license that can reach a maximum speed of 45 km/h with pedal assistance.

Contemporary and minimalist styling

Fun to ride, easy to maintain, and accessible to a very broad and diverse audience of all ages and backgrounds, BOOSTER models are the spiritual successors of Yamaha and MBK’s original 50cc scooters with “big tires,” highly popular among thousands of European teenagers in the 1980s and 1990s.

The contemporary, minimalist styling features a pressed aluminum front frame, wheels with large 20″ x 4″ tires for excellent grip and shock absorption, and a classic U-shaped frame that allows easy mounting and dismounting. Powered by a compact, lightweight Yamaha PW-S2 drive unit that delivers seamless power, the new BOOSTER models enable today’s new generations of cyclists to travel freely across city streets.

Cables are hidden behind sheaths for cleaner lines, and a chain guard with engine covers highlight the high-quality finish of the BOOSTER models. The rear rack provides ample space for transport, and both models are equipped with an adjustable Royal Orbis saddle and integrated Koso LED rear light.

BOOSTER models represent the new generation of urban mobility vehicles and are among the most accessible motorized two-wheeled models available today. Riding comfort is ensured on uneven surfaces thanks to large 20″ x 4″ tires that offer excellent grip on various pavements. The adjustable saddle height lets riders find their perfect riding position, and with high-profile tires absorbing shocks and a soft front suspension, bumps are easily managed. Designed for easy access, the sturdy, simple U-shaped frame with its single-piece pressed aluminum front section provides a low center of gravity for easy agility, making these zero-emission two-wheelers the smartest mode of transportation.

Yamaha’s smooth and reliable power

With 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing high-tech drive units for eBikes, Yamaha equips the BOOSTER models with the latest PWseries S2 motor, one of the most sophisticated in its category. Developed following the philosophy of “less is more,” the quiet PWseries S2 drive unit is extremely lightweight and compact, weighing just 2.85 kg.

With a torque of 75 Nm, the PWseries S2 motor boasts one of the highest torque-to-weight ratios in its class, providing smooth, natural acceleration. For seamless power delivery, this high-tech, reliable design also leverages advanced electronic control technologies that ensure a pleasant, elegant ride. Yamaha’s Zero Cadence technology offers instant assistance as soon as pedaling begins, and the automatic assistance mode provides extra help when needed, such as uphill or against the wind. Cyclists thus enjoy easier and more comfortable riding.

Riders can also select Zero mode, which completely disengages the drive unit and relies solely on pedal power, or walk assistance mode, which helps push the vehicle in situations like pedestrian zones where riding is not permitted.

Yamaha’s 630 Wh, 36 V battery

The BOOSTER Easy and BOOSTER are both equipped with a 630 Wh, 36 V battery that provides reliable instant power to the PWseries S2 drive unit. The quick-detach unit, centrally located, allows easy access and helps balance the weight for agile handling. The battery can be recharged both on the vehicle and remotely once removed.

Performance and range

The BOOSTER Easy has a maximum assisted speed of 25 km/h in compliance with European moped regulations. Riders can select Zero mode to pedal faster going downhill. There are five modes: +ECO, ECO, STD, HIGH, and AUTO, allowing users to choose based on terrain and individual autonomy needs.

The torque delivered by Yamaha’s motor is fixed at 50% in +ECO mode and up to 280% in HIGH mode. Typical range for a rider weighing 75 kg is about 120 km in +ECO mode and 60 km in HIGH mode.

The BOOSTER is classified as an electric moped (L1e) requiring an AM license and appropriate insurance. Riders can choose from +ECO, ECO, STD, HIGH, or AUTO modes depending on driving conditions. A rider weighing 75 kg can expect a range between approximately 110 km (+ECO mode) and 50 km (HIGH mode).

The torque from Yamaha’s drive unit starts at 60% in +ECO mode and reaches 400% in HIGH mode, providing assistance up to 40 km/h, stopping before 45 km/h.

User-friendly interfaces

The BOOSTER features Yamaha’s latest User Interface, the Display C, located at the center of the device. It includes a 2.8-inch color TFT screen and a separate control switch. Displayed information includes battery capacity, riding speed, assistance mode, range, clock, distance traveled, cadence, calorie consumption, and time. Various fitness and navigation apps can be accessed by connecting a smartphone via Bluetooth® for an enhanced riding experience.

The BOOSTER Easy uses Yamaha’s Display A, a simple-to-read 1.7-inch LCD screen. Its basic design includes integrated buttons, with key information always visible: speedometer, battery capacity indicator, assistance mode, as well as optional trip, odometer, and range counters.
