Riese & Müller: new cargo bikes for the 2022 back-to-school season

Summer 2022 is synonymous with cargo bikes for the German brand, via the Riese & Müller Transporter 65 and 85, Packster 70, and the elongated Multilinker.

At the recent European two-wheel show Eurobike in Frankfurt, the German brand made multiple announcements. They are not resting on their laurels after unveiling the urban e-bikes UBN (Urban Line) in April. Riese & Müller has notably renewed its cargo bike lineup with several new models.

The New Riese & Müller Transporter 65 and 85

The Transporter cargo bikes are two-wheelers with a load at the front, 26-inch wheels at the back, and 20 inches at the front. They feature a Bosch Performance Line motor with 75 Nm, a flexible belt with Enviolo’s continuously variable transmission, and a 500 Wh battery. Their saddle and handlebar have adjustable heights to suit all sizes. They can carry a total load of up to 200 kg.

The Transporter 65 is the most versatile, suitable for professionals and private individuals. Sold without a platform, it offers two main options: the Transportbox and a bench seat for two children with 5-point harnesses and a floor. A rain canopy is also available to protect from rain, as well as a cover for objects. Optional accessories for dogs, such as a cushion and belt, are available for the Transporter models.

The Transporter 85 is geared more towards professionals. Its longer platform accommodates a box measuring 87.5 x 70 cm and two different volumes: 375 or 465 liters.

The price of the Riese & Müller Transporter 65 starts at €5,849, and the Transporter 85 at €6,049. The box adds an extra €302.90, and the child seat costs €120.90.

The Return of the Packster 70 Two-Wheeler

Removed from the catalog due to a steering issue, the Riese & Müller Packster 70 returns this summer. With revised steering and rigidity, this cargo bike is also a two-wheeler. It visually resembles the Transporter with 26 and 20-inch wheels, approximately 2.45 meters long, but has a higher ground clearance, making it more maneuverable and premium. Competitors include Urban Arrow and Carqon.

The Packster 70 allows for more configurations—2-3 children, baby, child + cargo, etc. Its options are thus more numerous and will influence the final price. Riese & Müller sells it starting at €7,259 with a 500 Wh battery and a standard 10-speed gear derailleur. The most expensive model with automatic Enviolo transmission and 625 Wh battery is priced at €8,579. All models feature the same Bosch Cargo Line Cruise motor with 85 Nm torque.

The Riese & Müller Multilinker Longtail Bicycle

This electric bike falls into the elongated or longtail category. The Multilinker accommodates 20-inch wheels and targets models like Yuba, Gaya, Kiffy or Tern. The rear rack can carry loads up to 65 kg, including objects, an adult, or two children. Technically, the most responsive Bosch motor is used—the Performance Line CX, common in E-MTBs. It develops a torque of 85 Nm and can be combined with a 10-speed derailleur, a flexible belt, and Enviolo’s automatic transmission.

The Riese & Müller Multilinker is available at a price of €5,749, excluding options. The passenger bench costs €71, and the child kit with support bar €172. However, please be patient, as the brand indicates deliveries will only begin in 2023.

Good to know, the three models—Transporter, Packster, and Multilinker—are compatible with the RX Chip, a geolocation device with an alarm, notifications, and riding statistics.
