Relying on a new algorithm, Geovelo has managed to create a navigation system adapted for cargo bikes.
With the development of soft mobility, cargo bikes have rapidly multiplied in our cities. With their cargo box, they allow families to transport their children, or couriers to load their goods. But their large size can be inconvenient in certain situations. Faced with this problem, there is now a solution: a route calculator specifically designed for this type of bicycle.
The creation of this new digital tool is credited to Geovelo, a company that aims to facilitate cycling. The calculator is currently only available on the web, but will eventually be integrated into the mobile app. There is, however, a workaround to use it on your smartphone today: create the route on Geovelo’s website, then save it as a favorite. By doing so, the route will be linked to the user’s profile and visible in the app.

The cargo bike navigation system avoids routes with barriers that are too close together (those installed to block passage to motorized two-wheelers). It also excludes ramps for bikes found on some staircases. Since the tool is not static, users who encounter an unlisted obstacle are encouraged to report it. They can do so either on the website or via the Geovelo app.
