Volkswagen Unveils the New Golf R

Volkswagen offers a first glimpse of the new Golf R during the traditional Zell am See Ice Race.
No downtime at Volkswagen at the start of 2024. The eighth generation of the Golf, which will be launched this year to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary, is present at the Rétromobile show as part of a retrospective of the model and was simultaneously showcased at this must-attend event blending snow and ice in a fairy-tale setting. For the occasion, Volkswagen sent the sportiest version of the range to Austria, the Golf R. Dressed in its best camouflage, the all-wheel-drive model enjoyed itself to the fullest with a lot of calls and responses.
On the spectacular snow and ice track, the legendary driver and icon of the German brand, Hans-Joachim Stuck, and six-time Rallycross world champion Johan Kristoffersson pushed the car to its limits. They also had the pleasure of driving the Golf I GTI, launched in 1975, and the Golf IV R32 from 2002, a precursor to all high-performance R badge variants. Volkswagen also brought along a Golf I GTI and two Golf II, all in rally configuration.

To conclude this wonderful event in Zell am See, four variants of the new Golf simultaneously entered into action. Besides the R, the GTI, the eHybrid1, and the GTE had the opportunity to stretch their legs. The entire Golf range will be introduced in the first half of 2024.
