DS Automobiles DS 7

More than 4 years after its launch, the DS 7 finally receives a serious update. It also loses the Crossback designation in the process.

In terms of aesthetics, the vehicle changes quite noticeably. At the front, slimmer headlights surround a wider and better-integrated grille. The DS Wings – the fins on either side of the grille – are slightly elongated. The use of chrome is generally more modest. The daytime running lights are inspired by those on the DS 4 but feature a new treatment. The skid plate and the lower bumper also evolve during this facelift, which also introduces new rims and two new body colors.

Less chrome, a new grille, slimmer lights: the DS 7 has changed significantly at the front.

Changes also at the rear

At the rear, the DS 7 receives a new tailgate that is slightly more dynamic than the previous version. The lights become a bit slimmer and adopt a slightly modified scaly pattern. The “Crossback” badge under the rear window disappears in favor of “DS Automobiles” written in uppercase letters.

While the exterior has evolved well, the interior remains largely the same or nearly so. Aside from some updates to the trim and a small update to the multimedia system, DS has made no significant changes. The vehicle still features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and a similarly sized central touchscreen.

The interior is almost unchanged.

A new plug-in hybrid powertrain

In terms of engines, the main novelty is the appearance of a new 360 hp plug-in hybrid system. The gasoline engine alone delivers 200 hp. It is paired with two electric motors of 110 and 112 hp, allowing for all-wheel drive. The DS 7 E-TENSE 4×4 360, which is 15 mm lower and has wider tracks, can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

The DS 7 plug-in hybrids with 225 and 300 hp are still in the lineup. Thanks to a slightly increased battery capacity (14.2 kWh), they now promise an electric range of 65 km. The non-hybrid engine offerings have been significantly reduced, with only a 1.5-liter diesel engine of 130 hp remaining.

On the technological front, the restyled DS 7 introduces a more advanced LED Matrix lighting system. While the previous version had three modules, they are now fixed. The cornering lighting is now provided by varying the intensity of the exterior LEDs.

Orders for the restyled DS 7 will open on July 11. A special “La Première” series will be offered at launch on the 360 hp model. The first units are expected to arrive at dealerships during September. For now, DS has not announced pricing.
