Minor speed excesses should no longer result in point deductions. The measure has not yet been officially adopted, but Gérald Darmanin confirmed that it is on the agenda. The amount is €135 in the city or €68 outside urban areas. Under the current rules, a slight speed excess also results in a loss of 1 point on the driving license.

The definition of a small excess remains to be officially determined. Presumably, it will refer to speed surpasses under 5 km/h. According to statistics from the Ministry of the Interior, 58% of speed violations sanctioned in 2020 were less than 5 km/h over the limit.
As a reminder, a tolerance margin of 5 km/h is applied to the recorded speed when the excess is below 100 km/h. If you are caught at 89 km/h, the speed considered will be 84 km/h. For speeds above 100 km/h, the tolerance margin is 5%.
