Lancia presents Ypsilon, its restyled Peugeot 208

The Italian manufacturer Lancia is finally making a comeback with a reinterpretation of the already outdated Peugeot 208. Will the Ypsilon find its target?

Should we talk about a renaissance because Lancia’s marketers want to suggest it, or rather a low-cost revival? The debate doesn’t need to be philosophical. Let’s already celebrate this return to the forefront of Lancia, even if doubts about its success remain. Alfa Romeo, the cousin, remains a micro-operator whose global sales are desperately low (fewer than 100,000 per year).

An Affordable Revival?

At first glance, one might think that the Ypsilon is a Peugeot 208 with all exterior and interior elements revamped. It’s disruptive, daring, and ultimately not uninteresting from a styling perspective. Therefore, we’ll choose the Italian for its eccentric approach.

Under the hood, it will notably feature an electric powertrain that satisfies the entire Stellantis group, including a 54 kWh battery and a 115 kW (156 hp) motor. The maximum range is promised at 403 km.

Coming Soon in Concept Form?

The vehicle will be available for sale in the first half of 2024 in Europe and in around 70 dealerships. Starting in Italy, then Belgium and the Netherlands, and finally in France, Spain, and Germany in 2025.
