VIDEO – The Ferrari F80 Hits the Track at Imola

Ferrari took advantage of the Finali Mondiali held at the Imola circuit to give its fans a first glimpse of its F80 in motion.
To replace the highly successful LaFerrari launched in 2013, and before it the Enzo (2002), the prancing horse brand has chosen to return to its historic nomenclature with the legendary F and the anniversary of the brand’s creation. Thus, on October 17, 2024, the F80 was born, succeeding the F40 and F50 in this lineage.

A car to be classified among hypercars alongside the Mercedes-AMG One or McLaren W1. Marvels priced at over 3 million euros, precisely 3.6 million in the case of the Ferrari… excluding a 60,000 euro ecological penalty in France. Prices well beyond the reach of the average person, yet exceptional models that fly off the shelves. Proof of this is that the production of this F80 will be ramped up to 799 units, while that of the previous LaFerrari was limited to 499 units and a series of 209 convertible models (Aperta) to reward some loyal customers.
Proof that times are changing, this F80 is no longer exclusively related to its Formula 1 heritage, but also, and especially, to that of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Thus, the Italian brand justifies abandoning the legendary naturally aspirated V12 by seeking unprecedented performance, largely taking over the mechanics of the 499P prototype, which won twice in Le Mans in 2023 and 2024. The heart of the car is a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 producing 900 horsepower. Additionally, there is a primary electric motor sandwiched with the dual-clutch transmission, generating 81 horsepower. On the front axle, two more electric motors deliver 142 horsepower each, for a combined power of 1,200 horsepower at the intersection of energy curves. The boost is provided by a small 2.3 kWh battery, which unfortunately does not allow for a 100% electric mode to move silently and pollution-free in the city.
The F80 boasts truly mind-boggling acceleration figures of 0 to 100 km/h in 2.15 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 5.75 seconds. Watch out for your neck! The F80 has other arguments to present, such as an aerodynamic profile that combines nods to the past – a black band reminiscent of the 365 Daytona, the front fenders of the F40, or the engine cover of the F50 GT – and ultra-sophisticated adaptive suspension. Internal and external airflows are electronically directed according to needs and linked to the ride height, which is maintained constantly at the threshold of maximum efficiency during acceleration, braking, and cornering phases. The aerodynamic load already reaches 1 ton at 250 km/h… with a top speed set at 350 km/h. Finally, the two front electric motors add a dynamic boost thanks to torque vectoring.
