One tank, 1,300 km: the crazy bet of the Qashqai e-POWER

Nissan e-Power Tasmania

Nissan brought its Qashqai e-POWER to Tasmania for a new real-world test of its hybrid system.

Nissan continues to showcase its e-POWER technology. After connecting John O’Groats to Land’s End on a single tank of fuel last year, the Japanese automaker replicated the exercise in a very different setting: the roads of Tasmania.

Driving a series Qashqai e-POWER, the team completed a full circuit of the Australian island, covering more than 1,300 km without refueling. The journey combined coastal roads, mountainous terrains, rural areas, and highway stretches, achieving an average fuel consumption of 4.5 l/100 km.

Consume less to drive more

This new experience echoes the British challenge conducted during the summer of 2025. On that occasion, the compact SUV covered 1,347 km from the extreme north to the extreme south of the United Kingdom with an average consumption of 3.76 l/100 km.

Beyond the performance of range, Nissan aims to highlight the unique features of its e-POWER technology. Unlike a traditional hybrid, the thermal engine never directly contributes to propulsion. Its role is limited to generating the electricity needed to power the electric motor, which is solely responsible for driving the wheels.

The manufacturer claims to have further improved the efficiency of its system with this latest generation of e-POWER. This is based in part on a new integrated architecture and an evolution of the turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, whose thermal efficiency can reach 42%.

Marketed in France, the Nissan Qashqai e-POWER claims a WLTP mixed consumption of 4.3 l/100 km. These two long-distance tests aim to illustrate the system’s behavior in real-world usage conditions, far beyond just the homologation cycle.
