Lynk & Co Unveils the Notebook of Its 01

Lynk & Co commissioned the Swedish Environmental Research Institute, IVL, to conduct a life cycle assessment (LCA) of its plug-in hybrid vehicle, the 01.

Lynk & Co is clearly committed to transparency. First, with the offering launched by Gelly, the Chinese giant and owner of Volvo. They have chosen a unique positioning for their young brand, created in 2016, favoring a rent., with no commitment, cancelable at any time. Thus, for 600 euros/month (the offer was 500 euros at launch…), you can rent the only vehicle initially available, the Lynk & Co 01, inclusive of insurance, maintenance within the Volvo network, and 1250 km per month (15,000 km per year), for a maximum duration of 11 months… Renewable!

Good or Bad Student?

But how does this car, which shares the same technical platform as its Swedish relative, the XC40 Recharge T5, stand in terms of sustainability? The purpose of this life cycle assessment is to find out.

The comprehensive study assesses the carbon footprint of the 01 model throughout its entire lifecycle, including manufacturing, logistics, usage phase, and end-of-life management. In accordance with LCA standards, the assessment highlights the importance of emissions during the usage phase, consumer choices, and the use of recycled materials to reduce environmental impact. As Lynk & Co seriously considers giving the 01 a fully electric successor, this could easily qualify for the Eco Bonus!

Lynk & Co with encouragements

Primarily, the European electric mix, rich in nuclear and renewable energies, significantly reduces the impact during the usage phase. It is estimated at 35 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions over the entire vehicle life cycle, compared to 59 tonnes for cars using gasoline and electricity from coal. This isn’t specific only to this vehicle, but it underscores the relevance of the plug-in hybrid model in our geographic area.

Lynk & Co actively uses recycled materials throughout the manufacturing process, such as aluminum, steel, and plastics. For example, the seats are entirely covered with recycled materials. A good point for the 01 and a tribute to Volvo, a pioneer in these eco-friendly initiatives.

Finally, it is possible to share your car with a community for a fee, whether with close contacts (family, friends) or strangers, members of the brand. Lynk & Co admits that their app is not yet fully functional, but the effort deserves recognition, as sharing a low-carbon footprint vehicle can only be beneficial.
