Leapmotor B10: The Tesla Killer Under €30,000?

Leapmotor opens orders for its new compact SUV B10 New e-Hybrid promising up to 900 km of range.

Since February 23, Leapmotor has officially opened the order books in France for the B10 New e-Hybrid. A few months after the launch of the 100% electric version, this new variant relies on extended range electric vehicle (REEV) technology. This technical architecture aims to address the persistent concerns of drivers regarding battery range on long trips.

A special hybrid technical architecture

The B10 New e-Hybrid is based on an electric propulsion system powered by an 18.8 kWh battery, offering a range of 86 km in all-electric mode (WLTP cycle). The model’s uniqueness lies in the integration of a 1.5-liter gasoline generator. This does not directly drive the wheels but acts as an onboard power station of 50 kW to recharge the battery while driving, increasing the total range to 900 km.

The system offers four energy management modes:

• EV and EV+: to prioritize electric driving on a daily basis.
• Fuel: to maintain the battery charge via the generator.
• Power+: to ensure constant power during high demands.

Measuring 4.53 meters in length and with a wheelbase of 2.73 meters, the B10 maximizes interior space. The manufacturer claims the best headroom in its category, complemented by a digital interface powered by the Qualcomm 8155 processor. The central 14.6-inch screen consolidates all controls via the LEAP OS 4.0 Plus system. Safety is ensured by a high-strength structure and 17 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).

Leapmotor segments its offering into two trims, Life and Design, with a starting price set at €29,900 (customer price). A lease with an option to buy (LOA) is also available starting at €349 per month, including the weight penalty. For Raphaëlle Holderith, director of Leapmotor France, this model represents a “complementary alternative” that allows for a gradual transition to electrification without compromising freedom of movement.
