Future Opel Frontera, simple re-bodied Citroën C3 Aircross?

While we expected to see the return of a large SUV with the revival of the Frontera badge, it is a compact model we should anticipate.

Say goodbye to the Opel Grandland, whose name doesn’t stick in our minds, to welcome back the Frontera. While we thought this new model would be a German version of the new Peugeot 5008, everything now suggests that we will have to look lower in the Opel catalog to find it.

Many clues lead us to believe that the Opel Frontera will be an import and a rebody of the Citroën C3 Aircross currently available in South America. In fact, everything about the Frontera’s shapes in backlight suggests this, notably the two bulges at the rear just ahead of the spoiler.

The roof antenna, the detail that kills?

On social media, many comments point out the resemblance to the aging Citroën C5 Aircross, but the very rounded roof design didn’t fit. Moreover, there is an anachronistic clue on the roof that immediately informs about the positioning of the Opel Frontera. The 1980s-style antenna also doesn’t match a duplicate of the new Peugeot 5008, which would have made sense.

No, the future Opel Frontera will indeed be, contrary to the volumes suggested by the image revealed by the German manufacturer, a vehicle in the B or C segment. Somewhere between a Peugeot 2008 and the upcoming Renault Symbioz (a kind of larger Renault Captur) whose presentation is also imminent.

It is true that the market is fond of this type of product with light or plug-in hybridization, but not 100% electric (for now). Nevertheless, it is still not very clear regarding the future larger C3 Aircross from Citroën, which will be extended by about fifteen centimeters at the rear.
