Confirmed in Europe, the MG S5 is already shaking up the old continent’s manufacturers. Surprising because it is not revolutionary!

The MG S5 is primarily about average dimensions, measuring 4,480 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,620 mm in height. In the automotive industry, when we say average, we mean in the mass, which puts it in direct competition with a well-supplied market. This elegant SUV uses the MSP platform from the MG4 and is expected to benefit from the same range of batteries ranging from 51 to 77 kWh. This gives a range of around 400 km, which does not make it the queen of long trips but is sufficient for the majority of annual journeys of an average family. Smaller than the Marvel R, it incorporates the best of the new stylistic codes of the Sino-British brand with a decidedly modern style that is far less divisive than that of the MG4. All of this is very good, but nothing truly crazy, as you would agree.

The interior of the MG S5 should follow the same trend, with particular attention to materials and finishes. High-quality plastics would coexist with the best in infotainment, featuring a modern dashboard and a large central touchscreen. No barebones approach like Tesla or eccentricity like BYD, just a modern, elegant, and understated presentation.

The price, still the price, always the price

You understand, while the MG S5’s design is flawless, it does not reach perfection. This is not a car that will turn heads on the street, it is not expected to offer extraordinary performance, and no technical detail sets it apart from the top tier of global production. So why is it so eagerly awaited? Elementary, my dear Watson, for its price!

According to reports from China, the MG S5 is expected to be offered at an incredibly affordable price, estimated between 31,000 and 33,000 euros. That’s 20,000 euros less than a Tesla Model Y, a Renault Scenic, or a Volkswagen ID.4, with features that hold their own in comparison to the American and European models, quite the opposite. A value for money that could prove very attractive for consumers in search of a compact and very affordable electric SUV. And imagine if MG concocts a little XPOWER version from the back shelves?
