What is VinFast playing at with its pickup truck?

The Vietnamese manufacturer VinFast showcased a very intriguing anti-Tesla Cybertruck concept at CES in Las Vegas.

VinFast revealed its Wild concept in Las Vegas, which offers a glimpse of what the multifunctional urban utility vehicle of tomorrow could be. The promise is an entirely electric vehicle, rugged and attractively packaged with unique modularity. Quite interesting enough to take a close look at.

The Wild measures 5,324 millimeters in length and 1,997 millimeters in width. That’s 60 cm shorter than the Ford F-150 Lightning, 50 cm shorter than the Tesla Cybertruck, and 20 cm shorter than the Rivian R1T. A nice counterpoint to market leaders who keep bulking up with unnecessary size.

To offset this, very relative, small size, the Vietnamese vehicle features an electrically powered, centrally folding door that allows the cargo bed length to extend from 1520 mm to nearly 2440 mm with the rear seats automatically folded down. Clever move by VinFast, as it’s rare for this type of vehicle to use the cargo bed at maximum capacity with passengers on the rear bench! This concept has already proven its worth on the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST.

Proof that it is a concept car, the Wild is equipped with a panoramic glass roof and doors with reverse opening. Two features quite fragile and best avoided on a utility vehicle unless you want to spend all your time at the dealership.

All that remains is to know the battery size, the motor options, and the price… so everything! Most importantly, VinFast needs to finally establish a proper service network because showcasing one concept after another is fine, but without services, there is no market.
