Before its official presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the YangWang U9 is giving a little sneak peek. Carbon and sobriety are on the agenda.

YangWang aims to be a fully independent brand but remains nurtured by its parent company BYD. Proof of this is that its first 100% electric hypercar will be officially unveiled at the Geneva Show on the BYD stand.

This U9 measures a respectable 4.966 meters in length, 2.029 meters in width, and 1.295 meters in height. With a wheelbase of 2.900 meters, it proudly bears its sporty pedigree. As proof, the fixed rear wing made of carbon fiber, which can be found in its optional catalog, is positioned behind the shark fin antenna.

Under the hood, there are four in-house electric motors of 240 kW each. In total, you have 960 kW, or 1,305 horsepower, ready to be unleashed with your right foot.

Although the interior of the car appears very sporty with beautiful bucket seats and a plethora of visible carbon fiber, it’s almost disappointing… Forget the grandeur of Pagani, Porsche’s technology, or Ferrari’s refinement — at YangWang, they go for sobriety.

Three small digital screens, including one dedicated to the passenger, and that’s it. In comparison, the interior of a BYD Seal with its large pivoting screen looks like that of a car from the future!

All the controls, and the imagination of YangWang’s designers, seem focused on the steering wheel, but even here, it’s a bit of a letdown. A small flattened area to access the sporty cocoon reminds us that we’re in an electric fire pump, but there are no frills. It’s depressingly round and terribly classic.
