Volvo EX30 Cross Country, a project dead and buried?

Unveiled as a concept car in 2023, promised for commercial release in 2024, the adventurous version of the Volvo EX30 has gone dark.

The Volvo EX30 is not common on the streets, at least not in France. Is it due to its rather elitist positioning compared to much more affordable competitors? Is it because it is ineligible for the ecological bonus due to its production in China (Volvo is owned by the Geely group, a new partner of Renault)? Or is it because of a more chaotic production process than expected with numerous bugs that have slowed its commercial deployment? A bit of all this to be completely honest.

Cousin of the Smart #1 and #3, as well as the Zeekr X (which still hasn’t been imported to France despite all the announcements), the Volvo EX30 remains very discreet. So much so that Volvo might consider canceling the launch of its adventurous version, the very appealing Cross Country?

A Strong Concept!

No news, no image for the compact electric SUV presented in the summer of 2023. In light of the very enthusiastic media reception, Volvo had promised to consider its commercialization in 2024. Everything suggests that the idea has been forgotten, as the price of this version will be even higher than for a high-end Ultra Twin Motor EX30 with all-wheel drive, which is already priced above 52,000 euros.

It’s a shame because with its well-crafted look featuring increased ground clearance, 19-inch black alloy wheels, and protective plates at the front, rear, and sides, the result was impressive. Mechanically, its power of 315 kW (428 horsepower) ensured an acceleration to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds. As for the battery, it was set to be 69 kWh.

The coming weeks will be crucial for the survival of this project, which would serve to distinguish the Volvo EX30 from a very similar Renault Mégane EV, produced in Europe (France)… and much cheaper with the ecological bonus.
