In the United States, VinFast now offers an electric bike VF DrgnFly valued at $2,599 with every purchase. While this approach may seem bold, it is part of a tradition already explored by other manufacturers.

VinFast is not the first automaker to associate a flagship vehicle with a lighter means of transportation to attract buyers. Honda, for example, integrated a scooter into the trunk of its Honda City Turbo in 1983, providing a complementary urban mobility solution. Peugeot, on its side, has regularly offered electric scooters with some of its recent models, targeting city dwellers seeking hybrid and flexible mobility options.

In a rapidly growing electric vehicle market in the US, VinFast aims to stand out against established competitors such as Tesla, Rivian, or Ford. With the VF 9, a family SUV seating seven and equipped with high-end features (tri-zone air conditioning, panoramic roof, advanced driver assistance systems), the brand targets families looking for a spacious and practical vehicle.

Last-Mile Logistics

The addition of the VF DrgnFly electric bike strengthens this approach by providing an extra mobility solution. This two-seater bike, featuring a 750 W motor, a removable battery, and mobile integration, positions itself as an ideal complement for short trips, whether it’s grocery shopping or taking children to school.

While some see this offer as a sign of desperation amid fierce competition, it would be unfair to dismiss its potential. By combining innovation, sustainability, and a broader vision of mobility, VinFast manages to draw attention and enhance its brand image. Offering an electric bike with an SUV may not be a revolutionary idea, but it’s a clever move that could appeal to hesitant buyers and pave the way for new practices in the automotive industry.
