The new BMX iX3 will be crazily electric, but pretty?

The new BMW iX3 completes its dynamic testing before propelling the German brand into a new electric era.

The development of the new generation BMW iX3, the first series model of the Neue Klasse, is entering its final phase. Currently undergoing intensive tests at the Miramas testing site in France, the model will be unveiled for the world premiere at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. Production will begin in late 2025 in Debrecen, Hungary.

Based on the Neue Klasse platform, the BMW iX3 incorporates major innovations: a range of up to 800 km (WLTP cycle) thanks to 6th generation eDrive technology, a maximum charging power of 400 kW, and bidirectional charging capabilities (V2L, V2H, V2G). Charging allows for a recovery of 350 km in just ten minutes. We are still far from the new standards announced by Chinese manufacturers, but it is absolutely in line with current charging infrastructures. Isn’t that what matters most?

The driving experience also benefits from significant advancements. The BMW Heart of Joy control system, developed in-house, interacts with the dynamic torque management to optimize performance in milliseconds. The pleasure of driving, central to BMW’s identity, is thus elevated to a new level.

Chris Bangle, the return?

The BMW iX3 also introduces the BMW Panoramic iDrive, a new display and control concept combining several technological elements, including the BMW Panoramic Vision. This system projects key information across the entire width of the windshield, complemented by an optional 3D heads-up display and a central touchscreen with advanced backlighting. The multifunction steering wheel, integrating a “shy-tech” interface, facilitates intuitive and secure usage.

All of this is built on the new BMW Operating System X, offering increased customization, a smooth interface, and comprehensive online updates. The high-voltage battery, equipped with innovative cylindrical cells, ensures a 20% higher energy density and contributes to the vehicle’s structure.

Firmly oriented towards sustainability, this electric Series 3 embodies the manufacturer’s vision for future mobility. It remains to be seen whether consumers will embrace this vision and a style that appears quite divisive.
