Tesla reveals Cybertruck prices in the USA

Just 24 hours before the reveal of its electric pickup, Tesla has announced to investors the price range of its Cybertruck.

It’s still an incredible story. Just 24 hours before the delivery of the first units of the Cybertruck to customers, they still don’t know how much they will have to pay! As if money were nothing: an extra 10, 20, or 30 thousand dollars doesn’t matter. Strange.

But investors, and especially financial markets, are tired of this mystery that has loomed for nearly three years. The trust they place in Elon Musk’s company largely depends on this information. And concerns are high.

Three years ago, during the concept car presentation, the South African entrepreneur promised three pricing levels based on the number of motors selected:

• 1 motor: $39,900 before taxes (still in the United States, as VAT varies from state to state)
• 2 motors: $49,990
• 3 motors: $69,990

Since then, in a note sent to these same investors, Tesla estimates that ongoing inflation over the past three years, along with the project’s complexity, will have increased the price by about $10,000 for each version. That’s between $50,000 and $80,000… before taxes. What Tesla omits to mention is that during the same period, the manufacturing cost of an electric vehicle has dropped by 25%…

If we project this in California, Tesla’s home state, where the VAT is 8.75%, the Cybertruck starting model would be around $54,500, the second level at $65,300, and the top model at $87,000.

In France, without even including customs or transportation costs, with a VAT of 20%, the first Tesla Cybertruck might already cost no less than $60,000, approximately €55,000.
