Tesla Offers Roadster Patents

Tesla has made its first-generation Roadster “Open Source” and published all patents and technical documents of the model.

The original Tesla Roadster has been out of production for more than a decade now, and the new generation, unveiled in 2017, still hasn’t hit the roads. Its commercialization has been delayed multiple times, to the point where one wonders if Tesla will give up to avoid competing this car with more advanced models like the Tesla Cyberster.

Tesla has produced just over 2,000 units of the Roadster, and many have been lost in accidents and fires, including a collective incident in a garage in Arizona. This extremely rare model has become a highly sought-after collector’s item. As an anecdote, know that a Tesla Roadster has been orbiting the Sun since February 6, 2018, between Earth and Mars. It is a personal specimen owned by Elon Musk. This example is the fastest in the universe: 28,000 km/h and has eternal range.

To everyone’s surprise, Elon Musk announced that the model is now Open Source, meaning that all information regarding its design and engineering is now available.

Let’s remember that this car was built in the mid-2000s using technology that is now completely obsolete. It’s not as if the brand was sharing information potentially useful for other manufacturers!

This gift is more aimed at Roadster enthusiasts, offering them the opportunity to manufacture or design parts and thereby put back on the road models that have been immobilized. Cars that run are more valuable, and from an image perspective for Tesla, it’s a win-win. We might even see replicas appear and thus create a new community of Tesla fans.

Ultimately, this is another clever PR move by Elon Musk.
